Travel Insurance
Hidee Ho people!
okey doke so I'm going through this whole insurance thing cos I need insurance while I'm on contiki!
The first page says "the insurance coverage is valid only while the insured participating in the program and within the dates of coverage reported to AVI Internationals. The insurance coverage period begins upon the particpants depature from the home country at the end of the program. stop-overs between the particpants home country and host country, unless arranged or approved by your sponsoring organization are not covered by this insurance"
ok so does this mean I'm not covered when I go on contiki?!?!?
But it does say unless approved by the sponsoring organization, so do I have to organise with CCUSA.
All this insurance stuff is confusing and there are alot of ins and outs!

Re: Travel Insurance
Yeah I know there are and unlucky for you, you have to organise insurance for your contiki in Europe which a lot of us don't have to. I'd say that if you extend it you should be covered wherever you go as long as the Insurance company knows where you are etc....so has your Itinerary, but to be sure....call CCUSA or even AVI Insurance
Re: Travel Insurance
yeh i looked through the thing but if i get 2 extra months thats $200 with very limited coverages
if i go through flight centre (hopefully mums guna pay for the extra insurance!!!) my sis can get me 20% off so it'll be round $320 for a lot more coverage
wat ya recommend?

Re: Travel Insurance
Yeah, personally I'd go with Flight Centre just because it has more coverage and being in Europe it might be wiser
Re: Travel Insurance
what about us who are stopping over in NZ...do we have to get insurance for that stop-over? And stop overs after camp? like wherever we travel after camp- that's covered right? lol ohhhh insurance is so fun hha
Re: Travel Insurance
Your CCUSA insurance starts as soon as you fly out of Australia and finishes exactly 3 calender months from that date. If your stay will be longer than 3 months, you should extend it.
As for travelling to other countries other than the US after your time on Camp, I really have no idea... Im staying in America so I dont have to worry about it, however I am spending the extra $100 on extending it for 1 month. Its worth the piece of mind.

Re: Travel Insurance
I just emailed Scott, this is what he said:
When we submit all the insurance requests to AVI, they have the final say on
who is covered and who is not. As we supply 3 months, if anyone wants
extensions we recommend that it's extended before we send it through
initially to them. The reason for this is if someone only has the three
months coverage and makes a claim and then wishes to extend their policy
after making a claim, the insurance company is less likely to approve the
extension. If the additional months are paid for prior to them getting the
client details, we'd say XXXX wants 5 months and that's what they grant up
front.
So pretty much if you're travelling afterwards you should of told them before it went through.
But i dont remember them telling us this!

Re: Travel Insurance
I read that we could extend our travel insurance at our Pre-Departure Meeting. Thats when Im doing mine... Brisbane PreDeparture Orientation - 3rd May.
Re: Travel Insurance
Oh so that's why we don't really have all the information about our personal Insurance yet....because they send it through altogether...I'm assuming after the 10th of May because that's when it's all due.
Re: Travel Insurance
yeah they said they can do it at our pre-departure meetings!
I'm thinking of doing the flight centre insurance so much more is covered!
I'll give ya more info wen my sis gives me the brochure today

Re: Travel Insurance
im sure there will be time for that... kinda depending on how much time you have left after camp and when your visa expires and you are kicked out of the country/blacklisted for overstaying your visa... :S
